A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for do not require consent — but we must still tell you about them. This notice does that.
William Thomas Optical uses a single, strictly-necessary cookie so that you can sign in and stay signed in while you use the portal. We do not use analytics, advertising, social-media or any other tracking cookies, and we do not use cookies to build a profile of you or to follow you across other websites.
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Expiry |

Keeps you securely signed in to the portal after you log in (session authentication). | Strictly necessary. First-party, HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite — it cannot be read by JavaScript and is only sent to our own server over HTTPS. |
Expires when your session ends / you sign out. |
Because this cookie is essential, there is no on-site consent banner to accept or reject — using the signed-in portal requires it. You can still block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, but if you block this cookie you will not be able to sign in or use the portal. Guidance on managing cookies is available at ico.org.uk.
For how we handle personal data generally, see our Privacy Policy. If this changes — for example if we ever add optional cookies (such as analytics) — we will update this notice and, where required, ask for your consent first.
